Oferta de tres años para hacer un doctorado epigenético en Alemania

To understand epigenetic control of cell identity we investigate chromatin-based mechanisms of gene regulation and transposon silencing. We are looking for a PhD student to join our team.

THE PROJECT:
Transcriptional repression and heterochromatin formation are critical for cell function and genome stability. We recently discovered that an ATP dependent chromatin remodeling enzyme called SMARCAD1 restrains the activity of mobile elements in pluripotent cells. Loss of SMARCAD1 functions leads to transcriptional up regulation of endogenous retroviruses and nearby host genes. The successful candidate will determine the molecular mechanisms of how SMARCAD1 establishes and maintains heterochromatin organisation and transcriptional repression of repetitive elements and genes. The primary model system will be mouse embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives. In a complementary project, the human skin specific isoform of SMARCAD1 will be investigated which, when mutated, causes lack of fingerprints, referred to as immigration delay disease. For details refer to our recent publication (Sachs at al., Nature communications 2019) and http://www.imt.uni-marburg.de/mermoud/index.

BENEFITS:
+ The IMT pursues an excellent research program and has a top-notch infrastructure with access to state of the art core facilities.
+ We are associated with a transregional, collaborative chromatin research network (DFG TRR81; Bad Nauheim, Giessen, Marburg, Rotterdam) aimed at obtaining a profound molecular understanding of chromatin changes in Differentiation and Malignancies.
+ The successful candidate will take part in a Training Program and obtain optimal support to develop strong research and soft skills which will help to achieve their scientific and career goals.
+ The Mermoud lab has an excellent track record of past students who have published well, allowing them to move on to internationally renown labs.
+ Being part of a thriving academic and social community in Marburg, an attractive student town in the heart of Germany.
+ The Philipps-University promotes equal opportunity and provides a friendly, dynamic working environment.
+ The position is paid in accordance to DFG rates and is available immediately.

Methoden:
Our group at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumorbiology (IMT) of the Philipps-University in Marburg combines biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, including epigenome technology (ChIP, CRISPR, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq and bioinformatics), to dissect the epigenetic basis of cell identity and understand its mis-regulation in diseases.
