Oferta de doctorado en Viena, estudiando ecología evolutiva de anfibios


I am looking for a PhD student to join me in my new lab at the Konrad Lorenz Institute of Ethology, University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. The chosen candidate should develop his/her own project aimed to understand how genetic structure, life history and/or phenoiypic traits are impacted by habitat disturbance and climate change. Work can be focused on one of two 2 species: the dyeing poison frog (Dendrobates tinctorius) or the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra). The candidate will spend several months/yr working in the field, either around Austria or in French Guiana (depending on preferences, suitability, convenience and the overall pandemic-related situation), but will also be carrying out experiments in the laboratory. The project will involve, among others, experimental manipulations in the laboratory, fieldwork, colour pattern analyses, genetic analyses. Letters of application should include a CV, 2 letters of recommendation, and a motivation letter written by the applicant stating their research interests.

Specific Requirements: Above average MSc degree in Animal Behaviour, Ecology and Evolution, Environmental Protection, Conservation, or similar; Proficiency in written and spoken English; Excellent computing skills; Genuine interest in studying behavioural/evolutionary ecology from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Having some of the following qualifications is considered a plus: Experience with molecular biology techniques; experience in studying animals in the field; experience carrying out work in tropical rainforests; experience with amphibian husbandry; background in chemistry; Publications in scientific journals.
