Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Science Coordinator to join our ocean research and solutions team at the REV Ocean Fornebu office (Norway). As Science Coordinator, you will work closely with the Science Director in the development and operationalisation of the REV Ocean science programme, including the identification of key research and solutions topics, the preparation and running of the annual calls for proposals, setting up and implementing operational processes and facilitating workflows with the Science and Innovation Advisory Board. In addition, you will work with the Ocean Solutions Coordinator to develop and implement the basis for using RV REV Ocean as a multi-disciplinary floating “think-tank” for ocean solutions. Coordination on board the vessel during science and solutions cruises and representation of REV Ocean at national and international science, industry and policy meetings will be an important aspect of the role. The Science Coordinator will also contribute to developing and implementing scientific activities when the vessel is being operated in charter mode, in close collaboration with the Charter team. As Science Coordinator, you will also play a crucial role in assisting with external communications, and translating complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences. Your work will contribute to raising awareness about ocean-related issues, promoting our research initiatives and advocating for sustainable ocean solutions. The ideal candidate will have a robust track record in marine research, including sea-going expertise and strong leadership skills, exceptional communication skills, and proficiency in various media platforms.




ResponsibilitiesAssist in the continual review of the REV Ocean science programme and priorities, in liaison with the Science Director, Science and Innovation Advisory Board and Management Team.
Operationalisation of processes for access to RV REV Ocean and running of proposal assessment, project initiation, implementation and reporting.
Assist in the development of the REV Ocean multi-disciplinary floating “think-tank” programme for ocean solutions.
Act as REV Ocean’s cruise lead during science and solutions cruises to overview activities on board and ensure coordination amongst teams.
Assist the charter mode in the development and implementation of scientific activities during charter cruises.
Represent REV Ocean at selected science, industry and policy meetings at the national and international level.
Financial, reporting and personnel management duties as specified by the Science Director.
Help create compelling written content, including articles, blog posts, press releases and educational materials to communicate relevant science and solutions to diverse audiences.
Help create content for social media platforms, fostering engagement and building a community around ocean research and solutions.
Organise and participate in outreach events, workshops and educational programmes to connect with the public and stakeholders.




Skills and Qualifications
Enthusiasm and positive interest in contributing to a healthier ocean.
Ph.D. and at least 3 years postdoctoral experience in marine science (e.g. marine biology, environmental sciences, physical oceanography, biogeochemistry).
Successful track record in fund raising, science project development/design and science delivery.
Experience of research grant review.Excellent management skills in medium to large research projects with international teams.
Experience of working at sea for extended periods of time, leading teams in a multicultural and pluri-disciplinary environment.
Ability to pass a sea-going medical and sea-survival certification.
Knowledge of ocean issues, policy and governance.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Proficiency in writing, editing and proofreading scientific content with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts for various audiences and diverse communication.
Social media skills, including experience with platforms such as X, Instagram and Facebook.
Basic photography and photo editing skills to create visually appealing content.
Ability to collaborate effectively with scientists, researchers and other team members.
Creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop innovative science, innovation and communication strategies.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
