Main Description:
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is seeking three Research Curators in Vertebrate Zoology, with specializations in Ornithology, Herpetology, and Ichthyology. Successful candidates will develop and maintain active research programs in systematics and evolution of birds, reptiles, amphibians, or fishes, with a strong emphasis on collections-based research. Curators are expected to contribute to the care, development, and use of the museum's vertebrate collections — among the largest in the world — and to establish an independently funded research program.
Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant field (demonstrated)
- Demonstrated research experience in systematics and/or evolutionary biology
- Ability to establish an externally funded research program
- Commitment to collections conservation and curation
- Strong record of peer-reviewed publications
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. nationality required
