14 plazas de PhD estudiando la crisis de la contaminación por microplásticos

 Oferta compartida por Cristina

Doctoral position (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 3 years

Job description:
The successful candidate will become a part of the PlasticUnderground Horizon Europe ITN Project. Overall, applications are invited for 14 PhD positions funded by the Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network PlasticUnderground.
The PlasticUnderground Doctoral Network (DN) is an international, multi-partner, inter-sectoral doctoral research-training network with the aim to prepare an international cohort of Doctoral Candidates in the development of solutions to the emerging plastic pollution crisis in soils and groundwater. Given the evolving understanding of subsurface soil and groundwater ecosystems as long-term storage pools of micro- and nanoplastics, interdisciplinary capacity that can support and provide guidance for the management of these systems, as well as development of adequate technological, social behavioural and legislative solutions is urgently needed. This interdisciplinary DN will integrate comprehensive training opportunities in cutting edge technological innovations, regulatory and behavioural approaches across traditional disciplinary and sectoral boundaries. The consortium comprises universities, research institutions and companies located in the UK, France, Spain, Serbia, Italy, Switzerland, Cyprus and Germany.
Researchers funded by Doctoral Networks
- must not have a doctoral degree at the date of their recruitment
- can be of any nationality
- should be enrolled in a doctoral programme during the project
- should spend at least 50% of their time outside academia, for Industrial Doctorates
- should comply with the mobility rules: in general, they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting organisation for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date

Requirements:
MSc degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Soil science, or any other related field

Desirable:
The candidate will be based in our lab in Berlin and will be expected to carry out lab experiments on the effects and transport of microplastic in soils. The candidate should have experience with lab experimentation and ideally also with microplastic, and should have excellent English language and statistics skills. Previous work on pollutant transport or with high-throughput sequencing of microbial communities in soils, or an interest in such work, would be an advantage.

Se buscan candidatos para pedir una maripuri molecular y bioquímica en un centro de excelencia

The researcher will receive training in the Connell/Fucini groups (https://frozenribosomes.com/) related to the study of novel translational inhibitors that target the translational machinery with the possibility to develop part of the project within a very active network of international collaborations (Germany, UK, Japan, Italy). The highly multi-disciplinary nature of the project will allow the researcher to receive training in complementary approaches ranging from molecular biology, protein/ribosome purification and biochemistry to state-of-the-art structural biology i.e. NMR, X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM. The prospective researcher will receive training in cryo-EM data acquisition on both our home microscope as well as at national and international cryo-EM facilities (Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands) to gain access to the most advanced cryo-EM technologies. Training in cryo-EM data processing will be provided by the Connell/Fucini lab and supplemented by participation in international workshops. The researcher will also be trained in the application of high-performance computing and scripting (shell/Python) to cryo-EM. As cryo-EM is a rapidly emerging technique these skills are currently highly sought out in both the academic and industrial sector boosting the research’s future career prospects.

Although we are open to accepting cryo-EM projects directly from the applicant the research conducted in the Connell group aims at understanding ribosomal assembly and protein synthesis initiation mechanisms with a particular eye on exploiting these steps for developing or improving existing clinically relevant antibiotics.

CIC bioGUNE (http://www.cicbiogune.es/) is a key research center within the national and international scientific landscape and has been recognized as “Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence” by Spanish government. MSC-EF are prestigious fellowships funded by the European Commission. They offer a rare opportunity to talented scientists: the chance to set up research projects of their own. They provide an attractive grant for 1 to 2 years including salaries (around 2500€ net per month, with social care included) and allowances for mobility, family and research (detailed information on the call). If funded, the project proposed in September 2018 could start in May 2019.

Fellow application procedures:

We encourage all motivated post-docs wishing to apply for a MSCA fellowship with UBO to send us, as early as possible and at least before the 1st of May 2018:
a CV (including a list of publications and the exact date of your stay in each position and/or country)
a research outline document (up to 2 pages) identifying the research synergies with the pre-identified topics.

Following the reception of your application, the eligibility of your profile for a MSCA-EF application will be checked, and then the supervisor will select the most promising applications regarding the excellence-based competitive conditions and evaluation criteria of the MSCA-IF programme. They will contact you back in due course for further discussions and proposal co-writing until September 2018. To be crystal clear, this is the responsibility of the fellow to develop and write his/her own application proposal, but the supervisor will be deeply involved in the co-writing of the proposal and you will also receive dedicated support from the European office to write a persuasive proposal in a continuous follow-up process.

If funded, the project proposed in September 2018 could start in May 2019.

If you have any inquiry about applying and available support, please contact Delphine.muths@univ-brest.fr
