Postdoc en epigenética y metabolismo en el Babraham Institute

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and collaborative scientist working at the interface of
metabolism and epigenetics. This project will investigate novel metabolic factors driving diabetic
cardiomyopathy, and test targeted dietary interventions for therapeutic efficacy. This post forms one
half of a collaborative project between the Trefely lab at Babraham Institute (BI), and the Swietach and
Heather labs at Oxford University. The BI based post holder will lead metabolomic and epigenomic
analyses on mouse tissue samples provided by the Oxford-based researcher and pursue mechanistic
experiments in cultured human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived cardiomyocytes. The
animal models of disease, cardiac measurements, and tissue collection will be the remit of the already
required Oxford-based researcher, but training and exchange of knowledge with the BI-based scientist
will be encouraged. The project will advance our understanding of the metabolic-epigenetic interface
in diabetic cardiomyopathy, using novel insights provided by a genetic mouse model of an inborn error
in metabolism - propionyl CoA carboxylase deficiency. This post offers an opportunity for a talented
scientist to hone expertise in metabolomics and epigenomics whilst extending their scope and impact
across disciplines through collaboration. Although the work programme is on cardiac tissue, prior
experience in cardiovascular research is not essential and we welcome scientifically diverse candidates
keen on expanding their research portfolio.
The Trefely lab is focussed on the links between diet-derived metabolites and epigenetic regulation.
We study how compartmentalisation of metabolic pathways affects the supply of metabolites within
the nucleus and their functions in epigenetic modifications. This project will synergize cutting-edge
liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based methods for metabolomic analysis including
subcellular analyses developed in the Trefely lab with state-of-the-art techniques for iPSC-derived
cardiomyocyte culture (supported by the Heather lab) and epigenomics profiling. The candidate will
take advantage of ready access to top tier facilities and resources available at the Babraham Institute.
The ideal candidate must have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or similar field,
with experience in analysis of complex data sets such as metabolomic, sequencing or proteomics.
Collaboration is an essential part of the project and the candidate must demonstrate strong
communication skills, and be adaptable to work flexibly and independently to develop the project. The
candidate will be trained in specialised metabolic analyses employing liquid chromatography-high
resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) in the Trefely lab but prior experience in metabolomic
analysis is an advantage. Experience in stem cell culture and metabolic research is highly desirable for
this post since a considerable part of this project will involve the development of iPSC culture models
with metabolic perturbations. The role will require independent problem solving, critical thinking,
creativity, and an eye for detail.

The successful candidate will work in, and contribute to, a friendly, inclusive, collaborative and

Applicants must hold a PhD or have their thesis submitted when commencing the post. Please note
that you will be appointed on the starting salary of £34,500 per annum, if you have not yet been
awarded your PhD. All newly appointed postdocs will commence on the salary/scale point that reflects
the number of years' post-PhD experience they hold on 30th June in the calendar year they commence
employment. Due to the available funding for this grant the role will better suit a Postdoc with up to 4
years’ post-PhD experience.

Postdoc estudiando los efectos del cambio climático y la urbanización en el comportamiento y fisiología de carboneros

18 months postdoc within the project AdapTitfunded by de I-SITE MUSE « Montpellier Université d’Excellence », which aims at studying the interacting effects of global warming and urbanisation on Great tit (Parus major) behaviour and physiology.

They seek for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in animal metabolism, and ideally with experience in respirometry. This postdoc will be located in our Centre for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology (CEFE) in Montpellier. Starting date can be between 01/05/2023 and 01/09/2023. 
The postdoc would be working with Dr Anne Charmantier & Dr Samuel Caro, with many opportunities of interaction with students, postdocs and researchers from the group (see the Montpellier tit project website: https://mesangecefe1.wixsite.com/mesangecefe ), as well as the 80 members of the Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology Department at CEFE.

Oferta de PhD en Suecia estudiando biología molecular en plantas

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our research on plant metabolism, carbon allocation and cell wall biosynthesis. In this project, you will perform pioneering work to unravel biochemical mechanisms responsible for carbon allocation to wood with the applied goal of increasing biomass accumulation potential of trees. You will use both Arabidopsis and aspen as model systems. You will have the opportunity to be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in plant molecular biology, biochemistry, metabolic flux and cell wall analysis, as well as scientific thinking and writing.

You will be employed as a PhD student for 4 years in the Niittylä group at Umeå Plant Science Center (www.upsc.se). For recent publications related to the PhD project see for example Mahboubi et al. (2013) and (2015) and Rende et al. (2016). UPSC is a leading research institute in experimental plant biology with a friendly and international atmosphere providing a highly stimulating environment for PhD studies. UPSC offers excellent facilities for plant research and a unique set-up to study tree biology.

Umeå is a vibrant university town and the cultural capital of northern Sweden with good access to Stockholm and the rest of the world. Umeå’s location in the Northern boreal forest belt provides excellent opportunities for the nature interested and easy access to different outdoor activities.

Qualifications: You need a degree in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry. Knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and/or metabolic flux analysis is a merit and good English is a requirement. In addition, you have an enthusiastic can-do attitude and an enquiring and creative mind.

PhD scholarship to study effects of increasing temperature during early life in a tropical endangered fairy-wren in the Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology of Birds Group @ Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, a PhD project is available to study how temperature affects nestling development using a combination of existing and newly-collected data. The research will focus on effects of nest temperatures on metabolism, growth, heat stress, immune maturation, adult performance and molecular aging and how these effects might be mitigated by cooperative breeding.

The project will focus on purple-crowned fairy-wrens, Malurus coronatus
with field work taking place at AWC Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary in
the Kimberley, a beautiful region in the monsoonal tropics of
north-west Australia where the research group has been studying a fully
colour-banded, known-age population since 2005.

Monash University is a member of Australia's Group of Eight coalition,

teaching. The School of Biological Sciences is home to a collegial and
interdisciplinary research environment, with strengths in ecology,
genetics and evolutionary biology. The Monash doctoral program includes
additional training opportunities beyond the research program that

Requirements and further information
The student must have self-motivation, enthusiasm, a background in
ecology and evolutionary theory, a passion for studying wild animals in
their natural environment, a strong work ethic, experience with
(tropical) fieldwork and/or bird handling and/or relevant quantitative
skills. The student will have considerable flexibility in developing
the project.

Successful students will be offered a scholarship for living expenses
(and fee-waiver in the case of international students) of approximately
AU$ $26,000 AUD, tax-free for 3.5 years, for full time research.

Expenses for relocation, research, coursework, and conference
attendance are covered. In order to be eligible, students must have
four-year degree with relevant research experience, outstanding grades,
and excellent English.
