Skills/Qualifications:

• Level 8 degree in ecology, environmental science or a related discipline
• Field skills in ornithology with previous experience of conducting surveys for renewable energy projects or similar development projects
• Ecological field skills, highlighting any specialist ecological expertise (either academic or interest)
• In-depth knowledge of a broad range of ecological issues, fundamental to the preparation of high-quality, ecological impact assessments
• Preparing reports such as Environmental Impact Statements or Appropriate Assessments
• Working as part of a high functioning team
• Well organised with excellent attention to detail while also being able to manage their own workload
• Ability to manage several priorities at once will be required as will a high level of commitment to success

The principal role of the Graphics / GIS Technician is to support the ecology team by providing technical drawings and graphics as required for client projects.   The majority of the workload involves preparation of standard plans and graphics that accompany most of our reports, including:

• Site Location Plans – based on Ordnance Survey mapping of the area.
• Ecological Designations Plans – also based on OS mapping, and using information from online sources and data received from local records centres.
• Habitats and Features Plans – a detailed plan showing the different habitats and ecological features on a site based on survey information collected by our ecologists.
• Compile detailed measurements of existing and proposed sites using QGIS and exporting to Excel.
• Photograph sheets – collating photographs from site surveys conducted by ecologists.
• Other examples of the graphics workload include:
  • Creating a number of plans to accompany a Bat Licence, including plans illustrating the locations of surveyors, bat roosts and other survey findings.
  • Breeding bird survey plans – detailed plans to depict the number of bird species found at a site and their categories of conservation importance.
  • Ecological Enhancements plans – to highlight the ecological benefits of the proposed site.
  • Presentation boards – designed for specific sites that require public exhibitions.

Supervision and training will initially be provided by our existing Technicians.  Thereafter, the new Technician will work closely with the rest of the team, including the Graphics and IT Team Lead. The Graphics Team benefit from line management from one of our Technical Directors.

Scott Cawley Ltd. is looking to recruit a number of new Seasonal Bat Ecologists to our team for the summer 2024 season. Successful candidates will be offered a 6-month fixed-term seasonal contract (April to September).

These roles are four days per week (30 hours per week).

These roles will afford the successful candidates the opportunity to work primarily on bat surveys across our project portfolio, including our transport infrastructure projects of strategic national importance across Ireland. The candidate will gain invaluable practical experience conducting bat surveys, as well as experience managing and analysing large ecological data sets.

As the work is primarily concerned with bat surveys, there will be a requirement to work outside of regular office hours to undertake dusk and dawn bat surveys. Some deskwork will be required for downloading bat data and other desk duties such as desktop studies as and when the need arises. Full training will be provided to successful candidates, including usage of bat equipment, analysis of bat data and health and safety training. As the role is fieldwork heavy and requires traversing all types of terrain, a good level of physical fitness is required.

Although focused on bat surveying, dependent on individual’s skillsets and business demands, the opportunity may arise to be involved with other ecological surveys (e.g. habitat surveys, bird surveys, terrestrial mammal surveys).

Description & Responsibilities

The nature of the work will be focused on conducting bat surveys for projects throughout the country, as well as data collation, analysis and management of bat data following field surveys.

In-house training in survey methodologies and use of specialist equipment and software will be provided.

The role will require landowner liaison to arrange access.

The role requires being willing and available for night-time and early morning work. Given much of the focus of the work will be bats, much of the work will be at night or early morning.

The work will take place all over the country. Travel and overnights away from home will be required.

Requirement to work as part of a team promoting the business and maintaining the company’s reputation and standards.

Requirement to report regularly to line managers and directors on significant issues arising.

Work schedule will be managed to balance night work with day work and ensure adequate rest periods.

Depending on the nature and volume of the company’s work over the summer, the role may additionally involve assisting our team of ecologists in a range of tasks including shadowing or assisting with ecological surveys, desktop data studies, GIS work, drafting and/or contributing to ecological reports.

Ocean Infinity is seeking a Senior Benthic Ecologist/ Ecotoxicologist to join the Environmental Department.

The Environmental Department engages with a variety of stakeholders and undertakes studies in assessing marine habitats using remote sensing methods (multibeam and side scan sonars) and ground-truthing equipment (drop-cameras, ROVs and seabed sampling tools). pelagic ecosystems) as a secondary priority.



DUTIES: Leads geospatial research projects and data analysis. Develops and
implements methods for deriving biologically important characteristics of
coral reef environments from various data sources (in-situ and remotely
sensed datasets). Uses programming software (e.g. R, QGIS, ArcGIS, Python)
to integrate and analyze ecological and environmental data. Participates in
strategic planning and prepares grant proposals to advance the Project’s
geospatial research and spatial analysis capabilities to support coral reef
ecosystem research and monitoring activities to meet resource management
needs. Responsible for spatial data management activities and coordination
of said activities with data management personnel. Reports on results of
geospatial data products and analyses, and delivers presentations to
research investigators, resource managers, and partners. Trains and

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or

field.



EXPERIENCE: Five to seven years of experience in processing terrestrial or
marine data and performing spatial analyses, which includes experience in
the use of geospatial data (including satellite-derived) to quantify
biological, physical or oceanographic phenomena, and experience with
relational database management systems and managing geospatial databases.
Working knowledge of geospatial statistical methods and an understanding of
marine ecological, oceanographic, and biological processes affecting coral
reef ecosystems. Authorship or co-authorship on at least two (2) scientific
